Iomega eGo Desktop Hard Drive (Mac Edition,2TB),
A smallish, neat and attractive looking unit. Has 2 Firewire 800 ports and 1 USB connection and appropriate cables (converter cable for Firewire 400/800 included).
Connected and mounted to iMac without a hitch. Can be used as a start-up disk (I cloned the iMac with Carbon Copy Cloner) or with Time Machine (which chipped in and asked me if I wanted to as soon as the disc mounted).
Importantly (for me anyway), it doesn’t come with pre-installed crapware. Software is available via download from the Iomega site.
A nice touch is that the formatted size is 2 TB not 1.something.
I can’t comment on reliability as I haven’t had it long enough.
Pricing and delivery to the usual excellent Amazon standard (at the time of purchase).
Quite pleased with it.

Good job Iomega!,
Excellent Drive! Very quiet, tidy and will stand on edge (using a small stand) or lie flat. It is mercifully free from any pre-installed back-up software or other unwanted software! It does have the option to download various free programs if you wish to. (The trend antivirus seems to work nicely on my MacBook Pro or Imac). Just plug it in and OSX recognises it and offers to use it for Time Machine backups when you plug it in. It also has a daisy chain link for another Firewire drive if you have one. (This bit of info is hidden halfway through the multilingual instructions). I connected my old firewire 400 drive to it using the supplied 800 to 400 lead and it works perfectly, just as though I’d connected it directly to the computer using its own lead. The drive comes with a good selection of leads, including an 800 to 800 lead – which connected the drive nicely into the back of my Imac. I wasn’t sure if this wire was included when I bought the drive, so was pleased when it was. Overall …… a good product!

Great with Final Cut Pro,
i had used a hard drive along with final cut pro 6, but due to its age, it had a habit of freezing my mac and slowing down the entire process.
whenever this new hard drive arrived, i was very excited and put it to use as soon as possible. the freezing problem instantly dissapeared. it made very very little noise (my old hard drive had the habit of ‘clicking’ when it was being used). its handy stand made it very conveniant for limited space. files that were moved onto it were a success with no trouble.
all in all, i know that this hard drive would be perfect for co-working with Final Cut Pro and storing all footage, as for other uses, i would not know.
